View Full Version : Michael to perform at the O2?

19th January 2008, 01:18 AM
Troubled music legend Michael Jackson to perform a residency at London’s vast O2 arena next year, it has been reported.
Jackson, 49 - whose finances have taken a downturn since his 2005 molestation case, hopes the lengthy run will easy his money problems.
A source said: “The general consensus is that Michael has the fan base to attract enough people from all over the world to make this a huge success.
“Booking The O2 up for more than a couple of nights might seem a big gamble on his and his promoters’ part, but just think of the history. People will flock to witness Michael cover his back catalogue.”
AEG present David Campbell refused to confirm the rumors, but revealed a big star would be coming to the 20,000 capacity arena next autumn.
He said: “We have two big residencies booked for the fourth quarter of 2008.”
Whitney Houston is rumored to be the other artist taking up a “big residency” next year.
If the proposed shows go ahead, ***** will be following in the footsteps of his former pop rival Prince who thrilled the UK capital with a 21-night residency last summer.

What's the O2?
it used to be the millenium dome but O2 (the phone company) invested loads of money in it and have changed it in to an entertainment complex with a massive arena, a smaller stage area which holds about 2,000 people, a cinema and restaurants etc. they have had loads of masssive things happening there and it is being sold as the best arena in the world after having people like Prince, spice girls, justin timberlake, led zepplin, rolling stones, elton john and loads more in it in the 6months+ that they have been open
i have just noticed on their website they are showing off about the fact they have 548 toilet

EXCLUSIVE: MICHAEL JACKSON TO COME OUT OF HIDING FROM VEGAS HOTEL FOR BRITISH COMEBACK
Mystery about a comeback tour and new record surrounds pop-prince Michael Jackson once again as he has been secretly living in a Vegas hotel tower for the past three weeks—and has hardly been seen!
“There’s an eerie familiarity to the Howard Hughes recluse headlines of yesteryear,” I was told by one person who had a suite on the same floor for five days last week. “Guards are stationed in the hallway right outside his suite around the clock—but you never see Michael set foot outside it and nobody goes in! That’s simply bizarre!”
Ironically, for the first time in seven years, I’ve learned that he’s releasing a new single—timed in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the all-time recording sales breaking Thriller album. His new solo version of “This Girl is Mine” was re-recorded and produced by regular Vegas visitor, will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas.
A sneak digital version hit his British fan clubs last night (MON). The original was recorded as a duet with Sir Paul McCartney.
Apparently it’s all part of a super-comeback plan to re-launch Michael’s career from England where my former Fleet Street news colleagues tell me the new song will be in stores in less than two weeks—Monday, Jan. 28. Despite the fact that Michael will celebrate his 50th birthday this coming August, incredibly they also reveal that negotiations continue for Michael to headline a three-month-long British tour promoting a new edition of Thriller 25 with hip-hop megastars Akon and Kanye West handling the remixed tracks. Kanye has apparently remixed Billie Jean, while Akon remixed “Wanna Be Starting Something.” The album will also feature remixes of “The Girl is Mine” and Michael himself allegedly remixed and re-mastered a new version of a rare unreleased cut from his original Thriller sessions a quarter-century ago! Michael also plans to release a second brand new English CD of material that he’s worked on over the past two—hard on the heels of Thriller 25. If everything proves super-successful in Britain you can expect the green light for an American tour.
Click here to reach a link to listen to a small digital sample of the new single released to Michael’s British fanclub last night (MON).
High-level rumblings persist that Michael will start the British comeback tour at the famed London 02 Arena where Led Zeppelin recently staged its reunion concert. Other insiders claim American Idol creator and Spice Girls mega-mogul manager Simon Fuller—a partner with show-host Simon Cowell—is heavily involved with the master-plan to re-launch Michael back to superstar status.
The two men, as Luxe Life readers know, along with show choreographer, Kenny Ortega of High School Musical fame did meet for a long business dinner at Michael’s favorite Chinese restaurant in Vegas, Wing Lei in the WYNN. I was permitted to meet them and given Michael’s OK for these exclusive photos!
Fuller sold his British based 19 Entertainment Group for almost $200-million to American billionaire Robert Sillerman of CFX Entertainment, which controls the Elvis Presley estate, and is developing a Presley-themed hotel on the Harley Davidson land across from the Planet Hollywood resort here on the Strip. Fuller, now said to be worth over $500-million also masterminded the current Spice Girls world-tour that played two dates in Vegas at Mandalay Bay last month. In this closely woven web of transatlantic showbiz giants, its also ironic that the 02 Arena is owned by Denver oil billionaire Philip Anschultz’s giant AEG conglomerate, which just wrapped the five-year-run of Celine Dion at the Caesars Palace Coloseum, and is presenting this coming weekends three Hannah Montana/Miley Cirus concerts at MGM. Kenny Ortega also produced and choreographed the Sirens show at our Treasure Island resort.
A second person at the Vegas hotel also confirmed that Michael is getting close to hitting the 30-day stay mark. In the interests of privacy and maintaining the relationship between the hotel and its superstar guest I agreed not to identify the resort-casino. During his newest stay in town Michael has only been spotted a couple of times—and both times he was with his young children, son Michael Jr. known as “Prince” and daughter Paris. However, it’s believed they are not staying at the hotel, but rather with grandparents Joe Jackson and his wife, Katherine a their Vegas home.
Michael ventured out with them to go shopping at a local bookstore—but was spotted by a vigilant photographer who snapped pix of the pop-star’s face partially covered in plasters and bandages. A second time he took a late night private tour of the Madame Tussauds wax museum at The Venetian after closing time so nobody else would be there!
A guest at the hotel told me: “A few insiders here know that Michael is holed up on one of the high-floors of one tower—but nobody’s really talking about it. They are really trying to respect his privacy and provide him with every comfort he needs. Somebody’s betting that he had plastic surgery and this is his post-operative recovery time before his comeback career re-launch in England in the spring.”

latest news is that on the entertainment section of This Morning (uk morning magazine programme) they were talking about Michael doing the O2 shows. I will try to contact them and ask them where they got this info as it seems we the fans have the most solid info, ie direct emails from RB confirming it has been discussed but noting has been signed and emails from the O2 sying same thing, that it is still not confirmed, still in the maybe stages.
My guess is that This Morning have seen all the T25 hype and the speculation about the O2 concerts and have decided that it is true and just gone ahead and added to the confusion by saying its confirmed when, we the fans know it hasnt!!

Leonard Cohen will be on Keith's river in July (can't wait to see the all-action giant video screen for that one), and U2, Coldplay and Oasis are all elbowing for residencies this year (Campbell: 'I can confirm some of those names you mention'). With anticipated career-reviving throws of the dice from Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson ('Yes, we are in talks. How does one talk to Michael Jackson? Through Michael Jackson's lawyers'), good times at the O2 will continue to roll, its success all the more remarkable given that it sprang from the loudest trumpeting white elephant of modern times. The former Millennium Dome was an £800m blunder that until 2007 was still costing the taxpayer £190,000 a year to maintain. 'For a marketing man there was no bigger challenge,' says Campbell, 46, as he takes me on a comprehensive tour of the O2's 20-acre site, 'than taking that large white elephant and trying to make it otherwise.'
But there's one more deal to strike. 'If it's the last thing I do,' says Randy Phillips, 'I'm going to get Michael Jackson on that stage.'
Seems like they want Michael really bad! :crazylol:
And you know what? We do too!!!
*trying not to get too excited about it yet*
