i've always been bothered by mj being referred as ***** or ***** *****...now, if a member has that in their name, that's not my beef. but i think when those words are a direct reference to mj, even if it's an ariticle that's being reprinted here and not the posting member's fault, i still think those words should be changed to something more respectful or look something like this: j**** . as this site grows, mike himself may be a member here and have a good relationship with mjjb, and that's one thing i didn't like about mjno, that there wasn't anything cemented about banning those words. and that's also setting a good example esp. for the younger members about the meaning of those words and why mike himself hates being called that. just my thoughts...

"***** *****" is truly an insulting term, but "*****" is just a nickname for a person whose surname is Jackson. I don't really see the benefit of censoring.

^^it's not censoring, mike himself has publicly said that he doesn't like being called either names  but it's just an idea

that's exactly my point! on mjjc both words are banned, and i feel it should be here as well. esp. since this site has the potential to be one of *if not the biggest* the biggest mj fansites...i think that'd be showing a lot of respect. esp. when mike's camp learns about this site...maybe mike himself will talk to claire or mjjmagic like he did with paul

I think it's self-evident fans shouldn't insult MJ, but ***** is actually just a harmless nickname. That is why it's unnecessary to censor a harmless name such as "*****".
It is so silly when you post a news article and it is full of **** even if nobody intended to insult MJ.:brow:

I agree with you Carol. I think both names should be banned. Not only is the W word completely uncalled for the J word is something MJ has spoken out about his dislike about being called that, most notebly his interview with Barbara Walters in 1995

Michael: By doing that. This is their time for this...and this you should not do. You should not say, "He's an animal...he's a..." You should not say, "He's *****." I'm not a '*****'. I'm Jackson.
Barbara: How do you feel when they call you...
Michael: Yeah, ***** *****, where did that come from? Some English tabloid. I have a heart and I have feelings. I feel that when you do that to me. It's not nice. Don't do it. I'm not a "*****".

I think we should respect the fact that Michael doesn't want to be refered to that.

thanks for the quote, i didn't find it. :)

yes, MIKE himself said, he dislike to be called "*****"
nobody would like it, i think.
so we, as the FANS should show our respect if we would see michael respected in media...

* sorry guys, my english is not very good, but i hope, you understand what i try to say ;)

I've censored ***** now, however we have a popular member here with ***** in their name so this word is staying. :)

^^but claire, i'm not talking about member's names, i'm talking about when mj himself is being referred to that on the boards...or just make a thread reminding fans not to call him *****, but mj or mike is more polite.

This is actually a pretty good idea. I'd do it...out of respect for MJ.

I agree, it's disrespectful. People who say it's not a big deal, why is it a big deal to ban it then? If it's banned, then the people who find it disrespectful would be satisfied and the people who don't see it as that bad shouldn't really care. I don't know. I think it's a good idea. "*****" bugs me whether there's "*****" in front of it or not.

Ok, I'm adding this to the rules. :)

cuz with the potential of size this site can get, mike himself or peeps in his camp will one day know about this site and maybe have a friendly relationship with this site like with mjno...so out of respect and also for the younger members to be more aware of how this name came about and how mike really feels about it...i say both words be banned when it's a direct reference to him. if someone has it in their username, i don't find that disrespectful @ all :no2:...but instead when someone calls him 'j' instead of mike

I don't see it as an insult either. No need to apologize Pauline. Your username is ok.

pauline, :) my point wasn't on member's names, but when mike himself is being referred as 'j' and not something more respectful. believe me, i wasn't even thinking about you when i did this thread, i saw some fans calling him that nonchalantly and i felt that was disrespectful. but anyhow, claire and the mods understood where i was coming from

I know your point wasn't about member's names. However if I censor a particular word then it will censor out peoples usernames as well, and therefore Pauline will become Thriller***** lol. :)

I think it's good that they're banned if Michael hates it :) Must be annoying if even your fans are calling you ***** when you have to put up with it everywhere else :)
