Janet Jackson: MJ not ready for Jackson 5 reunion

22/01/2008
Janet Jackson has cast doubt on the rumoured Jackson 5 reunion, by suggesting that brother Michael Jackson isn't ready to go back to singing in a group.

Speculation mounted in November when Celebrity Big Brother star Jermaine Jackson said that "Michael will be involved" in the planned reunion.

However, Janet doesn't think her brother is ready for it yet: "I know it's been kind of tough for Mike. Maybe he just wants to continue to be a solo artist and if that's what he wants, you have to respect his wishes.

"But what an impact a reunion would have on the world. I'd be the first in line to buy a ticket."

Reports have also emerged that Michael is in talks to do a solo residency at London's O2 Arena this year.

Janet turns down Jackson reunion?

Janet Jackson has reportedly turned down the chance of joining her reunited brothers on stage.

The 41-year-old decided against joining Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, Michael and Randy for a comeback show so she can concentrate on her solo career, reports the Daily Star.

A source told the paper: "Janet's just signed to a new record label and is keen to focus on new album Discipline.

"She's thrilled for her brothers but doesn't want to use them as a crutch to get her own career back on track."

It has been reported that Jermaine Jackson is planning to get the Jacksons back together for their first shows since 1984.

The Daily Star reports that even though she won't be with her siblings on stage, Janet said she would "be the first in line to buy a ticket".

Meanwhile, Janet has apparently revealed she is confident that Discipline will be a big album for her.

Well, we're lucky Janet is so considerate as to not use her brothers as a career crutch... But Mike really should do it, hu? :brow:
Sorry, but in the last 5 years or so, Janet really has been peeping me off when it comes to statements about Michael.
Like that time she started saying that Michael was so mean to her when they were kids, out of nowhere...

Personally, yeah I'd love to see the Jacksons (the original Jackson 5 or The Jacksons - no Janet, no LaToya) again. But I can't see Michael doing that. He's evolved and is an artist in his own right.
I don't know - if Michael was gonna go back and make music with his brothers, he would have done so. He's had a million chances for that. I mean, Jermaine has been talking about this for centuries.
I seriously can't see this happening.

A few shows would be cool...further down the road... but I would rather personally MJ focus on his solo career now.

Yeah.. I didn't like her "crutch" staement either.

Well 2007 saw the reunion of many bands of which 99% were very successful, Spice Girls and Take That for instance. And I am sure without a doubt that if J5 reunited they would be huge! :D

When you think about it there is a huge demand and a huge money making scheme for reunion tours Queen did it Led Zeppelin did it and The Who have done it as well to name a few

If The Jacksons did reunite the tickets would sell a hell of a lot that's for sure

In my opinion Jackson 5 reunion isn't very likely. It seems to me that Janet is more credible than Jermaine.

I suppose if they actually reunited MJ would profit by it especially in America. In Europe The Jacksons were never as popular as they used to be in the States.

HAHAHA! Okay, I am sure she doesn't think of her brothers as a 'crutch' to get her career up and running, again...but whatever. :lol2:

I would love to see the article where she said that! (: Maybe she meant some sibling squabble. LOL!

I'll go and see if I can find that article for you.
Sorry, I can only find the German article. It says that in an interview Janet gave the Q Magazine, she said that Michael called her "horrible names" as a child, including "fat butt" and so on. And how she suffered because of that, even as an adult.
This would have been between August and October 2006.

Edit: Found it.

Was he projecting his issues onto you?

Of course he was. I don’t know if it was intentional. He was such a happy kid, but then when he became a teenager he got issues. Like acne and stuff. That’s when he became an introvert. It affected him so much, he became introverted and he projected all that on to me. He’d call me brutal names and say it was meant affectionately. Fat butt. It really affected me, and then by the time I was married and on birth-control pills that’s where I really went wrong. They made me gain weight. Everyone on Fame thought I was pregnant.

I'm really not that sensitive when it comes to stuff people say in public. But this was a time when Michael was recovering from the nightmare of the trial and was getting enough bad press as it was, without a sibling coming out with this stuff at that time.
There was a time when Janet was extremely supportive of MJ and sometimes she still is, but there have also been other times and to me the timing of that statement was a bit of an afront - no matter if what she says there is true or not. Personally I can't see Michael calling anyone fat butt or anything like that.
Especially since at the time his brothers and father were calling him big nose and all that.

yeah well, it doesn't mean that MJ wont tour on his own
and to be frank,
I'd like that more cause just imagen how many songs he can't sing if he tours with his brothers cause they gotta sing J5 songs too then
and I'm more fan of his own stuff

but..whatever he does, I'll LOVE it!!

janet aswell!

Thank you so much! I can see MJ doing that because afterall he will always be the typical brother most people have, but I doubt he's the only. I'm sure the other brothers do make such comments.

I get this kind of stuffs from my parents, hey! At least Janet got an apology from MJ, I didn't!

I don't think any reunion is likely to be honest  I bet they haven't all been together as a family in years, considering they all live so far away from each other and they have families :ninja:

Haha Janet would be first in line to buy a ticket aye?

Man, I would really like to see a J5 reunion. That would be off the hook. And Michael can have a solo section in the second half of the concert!

My opinion is that a Jackson 5 reunion will happen one day, but the world wants a Michael Jackson tour not a Jackson 5 reunion tour.

It's a fact that Michael Jackson as a solo artist does bigger box office than any other artist or band when he tours including The Jacksons/Jackson 5. Michael going on tour as part of the Jackson 5 would be great as I'd love to attended a Jacksons/Jackson 5 concert as I've never been to one. But at this stage in Michael's career after such a long absence from the music scene it would be a big step back and wrong move on Michael's career if he toured as part of the Jackson 5.

Also put it this was The Jacksons/Jackson 5 were a huge band a legendary band and I love there music (I don't know how you could dislike it), but they didn't dominate popular music and culture like Michael Jackson has as a solo artist.

Anyway, I love the Jackson 5, but the thing is.. I like them as the ORIGINAL Jackson 5 - young kids in these totally 70s outfits with these massive fros... It just wouldn't be as fun when they're adults and everything. Just my opinion though.

Yeeeah! Exactly!
I guess I was trying to put my thoughts into words, but I couldn't have said it better myself! ;)

But, if somehow Mike end up doing this reunion thing, of course I'll do my best to attend it!

I would love it so much more if it was a solo tour, though!
