Yesterday (January 25th, 2008) Sony Music started redirecting some people who tried to visit MichaelJackson.com to the site’s equivalent from their home country. So if you’re from Germany, you get redirected to MichaelJackson.de and if you’re from France you get redirected to MichaelJackson.fr.

The problem with that is, that the US version, that is now only accessible to people from the USA, UK, Australia and the countries that don’t have their own official Michael Jackson website, is the only one with the new advanced Web2.0 features like user profiles, blogs and galleries.

Sony Music stated that the reason this was done is “to address your every need.” This new policy applies to fans from Brazil, Spain, France, Germany and The Netherlands.

If you still want to access the advanced features that only MichaelJackson.com has to offer, there is a way around these redirections. Simply use http://us.MichaelJackson.com instead of http://www.MichaelJackson.com to visit the official American Michael Jackson website.

Thanks for this information. I was so pissed off when I tried visiting MichaelJackson.com with that new design and got redirected to that crappy German version.
Do you have any further information on this? Is it planned to update those sites?

That's really stupid of them to do.

Most companies have an international homepage that lets you choose your country and/or language first.

What if someone speaks Japanese and they're in Germany for a vacation using WiFi or something?
