Since the late 80's he's not been a Jehovah's Witness. I actually think he has no religion. He believes in God and has said he tried to be 'God-like' in his ways, be generous and kind.

it's amazing how this subject of religion is among the most popular in the world among both believers and non believers..lol. i never cease to see it being discussed in some form or another..loll

it appears that MJ doesn't like to talk about anything of any kind, unless he's forced to do so in an interview..lol...and, that's if someone metaphorically strongarms him into the interview in the first place..lol...he seems so deeply private for such a megastar....he's been a successful mystery in so many ways for such a long time. seeing the oprah interview, he spoke of Jesus..
reading his dancing the dream book he spoke of God as both he and she...

seeing inside his neverland home..there was a pic of Jesus as people depict him...

and today he says a lot of God bless you's...

that's all i heard him say, so that's as far as i can go on guesing.

he seems to be a person of goodwill. he seems to escape dangers and nefarious people like a phoenix and a houdini....

he seems like a walking miracle...

i don't like to make judgement calls..so..i'm just doing a play by play of what i heard him say..lol...and what i have seen.

i think he still believes in Jehovah. He did go to Kingdom hall several times during the trial, and he did tell jesse jackson that he "believed in Jehovah god very very much" in that radio interview.....

I think MJ is more of a spiritual person and doesn't need to follow a religion :smug:

He said he was not a Jehovah's Witness anymore though....I thought he converted to Christianity in the 90's? Once he learned more about Jesus I thought he got real into the whole Jesus thing and became a Christian. I know not long after stopping being a JW he began to celebrate Christmas and talk about Jesus often mentioning his name and teachings. Is Liz Taylor a Christian? I always figured he got introduced to Christianity by her.

Just cause you call God Jehovah does not mean you are a Jehovah's witness by the way. Jehovah means "God". He grew up calling God that name because of being a JW though.. but calling God by that name does not make you a JW. Even Christians at times call God Jehovah. Very often actually in church .

^ i know that  - but he was attending Kingdom hall around the same time he made that comment, so.... :hmm:

:hmm:

That's not really saying much.

Christian denominations believe in Jehovah, as well. We just feel like calling Him a noun instead.

There's a verse somewhere in the New Testament(?) that has Jesus telling people to call him Jehovah.

The Christian god has many names.

Keepthefaith

^Exactly.. Ive been a member of several different Christian churches in my life and they all at times referred to God as Jehovah.

I believe if he visited Kingdom Hall at times during the trial its because his family was with him and around him during that time and they are mainly JW's. It was just a temple where he could pray and feel close to God.. it doesnt necassarily mean he is a JW.

he went on his own a lot of times.
Why are people so eager to tell me he isnt a JW?

Keepthefaith
21st November 2008, 02:36 PM
Cause like Japha said... he stopped being one in the late 80's and made it known in the 90's .

I'm not being "eager". I didnt say anything that was not true.. I was just talking about Christianity and it's use of the term Jehovah.
As for him going to the Kingdom Hall alone...that still doesnt mean what I said could still not be the case. A church is a place you can go into to feel close to god it doesnt mean that is his choosen religion. I'm not saying he is even for sure Christian . No one knows for sure...I'm just saying I think he atleast was in the 1990's. I have no clue where he stands now. I just lean more towards him being a Christian going off the way he talked all through the 90's.

We DO know for a fact though that he believes in God.. so.. yeah . LOL

Keepthefaith
21st November 2008, 02:52 PM
yeah, i do.

Based on what? That he went to Kingdom Hall some during the trial? Im seriously not being rude... I just honestly want to know what you are basing it off of. Cause its a pretty known thing that in the late 80's early 90's he stopped being a Jehovah's witness and started being influenced by Jesus and Christianity. Atleast that's what I always heard from the fan community ever since I became a fan and also I believe he mentions something about it in Private Home Movies and in one or two interviews at some point. Also, so many of the paintings he had all over his home where famous Jesus images with him in the place of Jesus. They seem to say something about how he feels about Christianity.

So.. these are the things that make me think he is Christian or atleast USED to be. He also talked often about trying to be like Jesus and be Jesus-like as Jesus said to be. That is not something JW go around saying.. thats a very Christian thing. To be seen in Jesus's image and light.

I just find it odd someone would go around saying how they want to be like Jesus all the time if they were not in some way a Christian or share Christian beliefs on Jesus. Ya know?

Please dont see this as arguing! I am just curious about your opinions and why you have them and am just having a discussion. I totally respect your opinion .

And yeah I'd like to see a link to that info too. Cause I have never ever heard anyone ever mention that.

it's difficult to explain when english is not my first language..... :shy: but i'll try (and probably fail )

I dont think he's a practising JW (like his mother is). But i DO think he's still very much influenced by what he was taught as a child, and i do think he still sees the world as a JW would, and that he still builds his morals and ethics on the teachings that JW offer.
He has said many times that he likes to study and learn about other cultures, religions etc, and im sure he has studied Christianity as well (like you said).

Im not sure he belongs to a certain religion right now - but i do think that the JW way of living, thinking, acting, being is the closest you get to following a religion......

(did that make sense? :hmm:)

howdy all!!! :wink2ni3: it's me tiabear.. hope you are all doing just wonderful.. I need to let you in on a few things.. someone mentioned to me that MJ decided to become Indian religion?? well from what I understand.. and I was told this from a doctor who is from India. that their beliefs are hindu... and Pakistan is muslim beliefs.. that is one of the main reasons why Pakistan and Inda have wars from time to time.. I just thought I would let you know so that you could get a bit of understanding. So anyhow.. whatever religion Michael is.. the news media needs to stop telling stories that have no factual basis on MJ.. The news media is nothing to listen to anymore.. all a bunch of nonfactual news stations.. they never seem to be honest material anymore..just listen to michael on his videos.. he will be the one to listen to about himself.. and if he changed his religion again... and he said he did.. then okay.. believe it.. if not.. dont even bother listening to the national enquirer news people because that is all they are it seems.. the world would be a lot better place if everyone just started being more honest.. right?? love you all.. muahs love tiabear ( the original tiabear from prodigy classic chat and back to the 80's chat on msn)

Oh well if that is what you are saying then I totally agree! Growing up a JW means he will carry those values and teachings with him forever, ya know? I think he probably still bases alot of morals and values and way of life around the way he was raised as a JW. I think at some point that yeah he also became very intrested in Jesus and believed in Jesus and who he was and Jesus became important to him and a big influence in his life.

I dont know for sure though whether he is "officially" any certain religion either. I do believe at one point in time he did become a Christian, meaning he accepted Jesus and believed in him and who he was. Whether he would "call" himself a Christian today though or anything else for that matter.. I have no clue.

I think that yeah.. lots of religions influence him .

What I wonder about though is if he raises his children to believe in Jesus as the Lord or the JW beliefs or a mixture lol ? :hmm:

He's said so himself that he isn't INTO religion, although he studies many different cultures and beliefs and that he admires many different traditions. So why are we gonna try and guess what he is? I don't think he changes his mind a lot  And I don't think the man sticks to just ONE basic religion, although he seems to be christian, by default. But when I look at how the basic principal of christ was, I can understand why MJ would speak about Him the way he has

I think it is good that he avoids telling people (if he is into any relgion) what he is, for the sole purpose that one might try and buy him out or persuade him. That is why I admire what he said back in 1995 on Diane Swayer's show

I'd assume he was Christian based on some of his lyrics and his reverence for Jesus.

Rawr

Maybe he doesn't want to call himself anything because he may feel he isn't good enough for the religion out of humility?

You hear all this stuff about, "OH YOU'RE NOT A REAL ______ BECAUSE YOU DID THIS OMG"... maybe he wants to avoid that and just sorta follow the philosophy behind it?

I hate seeing that he's converted to Islam in most of the new websites here  I don't think I can see him as a muslim now after all these years. I have a problem with that. To answer the question, I don't he's practicing any religion. He's open to all beliefs though.

MoonieRMD

It makes me laugh when someone sayd he´s muslin now!3 years ago they said exactly the same thing and that he was building a mosque...
He clearly stop being a Jehovah´s Witness and what is more logic is that he chose to put his belief in "God" above any religion...

Another reason I think is because he might be worried it might cause division among the fans. If he were to profess anything, the fans who don't belong to whatever religion or belief he professes may stereotype him and it may change their perspective of him somewhat. Some may even feel left out. I think it's smart of him to keep it private.:cute:

Maybe he's non-denominational.
I think so too. But that is Christian.

Anyway.... I ticked the box saying he changes his mind a lot.

Jehovah is in a lot of your bibles, sometimes if you all have a bible flip to Psalms 83:18 and I have both King James and The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, they go use the name for God as Jehovah.. (I'm not forcing anyone to believe a thing just saying what I see here in two open bibles, nor does there need to be an argument over it) So yeah its used in the bible some have it some don't... Some churches use the name some don't. But Jen I very Much agree with you :)

As for the poll, A christian with some JW beliefs, but no longer a JW (Thriller).

but i wouldn't be surprise if he embraced Islam or anything since Jermaine is one .. and i wouldn't mind just any other religion he is in seriously  but i doubt MJ will not have faith in god because he have always been relating to god somehow
