Michael Jackson's 'This Is It' DVD rakes in Y1.6 billion in one day Japan Today: Japan News and Discussion

TOKYO — “King of Pop” Michael Jackson’s posthumous documentary “This Is It” went on sale in stores in Japan on Wednesday, and according to music statistics firm Oricon, the DVD sold over 210,000 copies and the Blue-ray edition sold over 120,000 copies, together netting first-day sales of more than 1.6 billion yen.

An event was held at VenusFort in Odaiba to mark the official release of both formats of the movie, and a life-size wax figure - 177 cm tall and weighing 32 kg - was unveiled. It will be on display there until Feb 7.

Australian guitarist Orianthi, 25, who was scheduled to be the lead guitarist in Jackson’s final tour, also attended the event and played “Black or White.”
